Dr. Jarod Masci
Dr. Jarod Masci is a board-certified psychiatrist and addiction specialist who founded LHS in 2015.
About me:
Hi, my name is Dr. Jarod Masci. I’m the founder and chief medical officer for Landmark Health Systems in Buffalo NY. I grew up in a small town in WNY with 5 siblings and I was the first member of my family to graduate from college. I received degrees in Biology and Psychology from UB and I stayed in Buffalo for medical school. I had a difficult time deciding which specialty of medicine to study because I enjoy learning all kinds of new things and really liked almost every aspect of being a physician. Eventually I picked Psychiatry because it’s the coolest (by far) but I have also worked extensively in Neurology, Family Medicine, Addiction Medicine, and Pain Medicine.
I try to be as thorough and open-minded as possible when evaluating new patients so that I can look at what they are experiencing from all angles and get to know them as a person. I believe that there is always improvement to be made when it comes to mental and physical health, no matter what the diagnosis might be or who that person is. No one is beyond help, in my opinion, and I consider it my mission to offer as many evidence-based solutions as I possibly can while minimizing medications and side effects. I’ll spend as much time and effort as it takes to work with patients, gather all necessary info, and then meet them where they’re at in regard to treatment preferences and options.
I believe in maintaining a non-judgemental attitude and providing a comfortable atmosphere for everyone at Landmark. Compassion, respect for others, hard work, and personal responsibility are our guiding principles. I don’t believe that medicine should be focused on waiting for someone to be sick and only prescribing medications. Instead, physicians should provide patients with up-to-date scientific information about how to optimize their health while keeping in mind their individual medical problems and mental health challenges.
This approach is called “Lifestyle Psychiatry” and utilizes exercise, nutrition, psychotherapy, meditation, healthy behaviors, and healthy relationships to improve mental health overall.
